You do not have to do anything specific other than brush your teeth before coming in for your teeth whitening treatment. You may want to put some lip balm on just before your appointment as your lips will dry slightly. (we supply this in the clinic anyway)
It is not necessary to have your teeth scaled and polished prior to your whitening treatment, however, we do recomend your usual 6-12 monthly regular visit to the dentist, so just go whenever you are due.
When You Arrive
- You will be greeted by one of our friendly Dental Professionals.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Teeth whitening treatment
Q1: What happens when I arrive for my teeth whitening appointment?
Upon arrival at our clinic, you will be greeted by a dental professional and asked to take a seat in the waiting area. You will be given a treatment consent form to read and complete. Please take your time with this, and remember that a consultation will be carried out before any whitening begins, during which you can ask any questions you may have about the process.
Q2: What does the initial consultation involve?
The consultation begins with the placement of a cheek retractor to expose your teeth and gums. Your dental professional will then assess your current tooth shade, which will be confirmed with you using a shade guide in a mirror. This helps to establish the desired outcome. We will also examine your teeth generally to ensure there are no cosmetic concerns that need addressing before treatment. You will be shown the before shade and the anticipated after shade on the shade guide. This consultation is free of charge and carries no obligation to proceed with the whitening.
Q3: What if the dental professional finds something that might prevent me from having the treatment?
If during the consultation your dental professional identifies any factors that may contraindicate the teeth whitening treatment, you will be informed at this point. Your safety and oral health are our priority.
Q4: How is the teeth whitening treatment carried out?
Once both you and your dental professional are happy to proceed, an accelerator spray preparation will be applied and activated with a light for one minute. Following this, the first of three whitening gel sessions will be applied. Each session lasts between 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the results and your expectations discussed during the consultation. Between each session, the used whitening gel will be removed with an aspirator, and a fresh layer of gel will be applied before the light is reactivated.
Q5: Is the teeth whitening treatment painful or uncomfortable?
The teeth whitening treatment is generally not painful, and you should not experience any sensitivity during the process. It is often described as uneventful. However, if you do feel any discomfort at any point, it is important to inform your dental professional immediately.
Q6: What can I do during the whitening sessions?
During the treatment sessions, you are welcome to sit back, relax, watch the television provided, or even take a nap. Your dental professional will monitor you and keep you updated between each session.
Q7: What happens after the teeth whitening treatment is finished?
Once the treatment is complete, the cheek retractor will be removed, and you will be asked to rinse your mouth a few times before viewing your brighter smile in the mirror. Your dental professional will then provide you with detailed aftercare instructions, which include following a “white diet” for the first 24 hours post-treatment.
